Western Riverside County experienced explosive growth over the past several decades and still remains one of the fastest growing areas in California and the United States. With 1.7 million residents, forecasts project the population to be 2.1 million by 2020 and 2.7 million by 2035. In the past, a continually expanding transportation infrastructure and a booming housing market have supported this rapid influx of people to the subregion. The more recently developed communities are built on a suburban model; future urban form in Western Riverside County must be more sustainable and appeal to both future residents and future employers.
WRCOG collaborates with local jurisdictions, the County of Riverside, and other regional planning agencies to develop periodic reports, studies, demographics, and growth forecasts.
