Cleanest County in the West
Cleanest County in the West is designed to help WRCOG members meet their goals for litter abatement, reducing illegal dumping, and reducing the waste going to landfills through recycling. Public educational programs, community cleanups, and young peoples programs are integrated under the umbrella of Cleanest County in the West with the objective of reducing the blight associated with litter and illegal dumping and promoting the recycling of beverage containers and the California Redemption Value (CRV) program.
Funded entirely through grants from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), Cleanest County in the West focuses on educating the region’s youth to sponsor recycling and litter prevention and cleanup activities. The program also sponsors community clean-up events by providing volunteers with trash pickers, trash bags, and t-shirts. The program is featured at almost every major event in the region, getting the message out at a booth manned by program personnel.
Overall Objectives:
- Increase resident’s pride in their community and county, while decreasing litter 20% per year, to achieve “zero” litter.
- Establish a workable, effective litter abatement and illegal dumping clean up program which can benefit all jurisdiction in the region.
- Develop practical/cost effective public educational programs, which can complement other on-going educational programs already in effect.
