Our Elementary School Program

WRCOG’s Cleanest County in the West program, funded through grants from the California Department of Conservation, has formed a partnership with The Malibu Foundation, a foundation dedicated to teaching children about the environment.

This partnership supports WRCOGs Elementary School program, which since 1999 has reached out to more than 80,000 Riverside County children at assemblies that focus the environment and the importance of recycling and reducing litter and trash

These FREE assemblies provide a 45 minute program that uses a slide presentation and interactive activities to demonstrate the negative impact of litter on our environment by tracing the path of litter from our homes, cars, bikes, and schools via the storm drain system to the ocean where it kills plants and animals, restricts the oxygen supply, and creates hazardous beach conditions.

Each student receives a coloring book or activity book about recycling and the environment.

Each teacher receives access to a K-5 standards matrix that relates the assembly to statewide curriculum standards.

Each school can receive FREE portable recycling containers to collect beverage containers that can be redeemed for cash.
