Growth Issues
More than 40% of Riverside County’s workforce commutes to other counties to work. Most go to Orange and San Diego counties. WRCOG is meeting this challenge head on by creating new inter-regional partnerships along the affected transportation corridors, the SR-91 and I-15 as well as strengthening relationships with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).
These voluntary partnerships are forging more sustainable land use patterns that will help develop more affordable housing near employment centers and more future employment near current residential development. Mixed use and infill strategies plus economic development efforts are important parts of these strategies. WRCOG’s recently published studies and implementation strategies are helping to shape how communities in the inter-regional partnerships make decisions about their future land use.
