Regional Air Quality Task Force

In 2001, the Riverside County Regional Air Quality Task Force (Task Force) was convened by Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione to explore and develop measures to improve the air quality in Western Riverside County, and to minimize the environmental and health impacts of diesel particulate (PM). Diesel particulates are increasingly being linked to significant health and economic problems, including premature deaths, respiratory diseases, asthma, chronic bronchitis, missed school days and decreased worker productivity

The Task Force members include representatives from the South Coast Air Quality Management District, County of Riverside, Office of District 2 Supervisor John F. Tavaglione, Eastern Municipal Water District, American Lung Association of the Inland Counties, Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, March Joint Powers Authority, City of Riverside, City of Norco, Clean Energy, City of Moreno Valley, and the Waste Haulers Association. The composition of the Task Force has given an unique set of perspectives, allowing the group to consider the myriad of opportunities and challenges of improving air quality. The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) coordinates Task Force activities and implements recommendations as funding allows.
