Used Oil Boater Program

In 2004, WRCOG received a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board to establish a program to promote clean boating at western Riverside County’s lakes. The program focuses on preventing oil contamination of Riverside County lakes as well as publishes a boater card on clean boating habits.

If you are a boater, you can help us improve our program. Click here and take one of our Boater Surveys.

Used Oil and Filter Collection

As part of the Boat Oil Recycling program, WRCOG installed a full used oil and filter collection center at Lake Perris, as well as bilge pad collection containers at Lake Perris, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake. WRCOG’s used oil collection center at Lake Perris will allow boaters to properly dispose of their motor oil while inside the state park.

Used boat motor oil that is not contaminated with water can also be disposed of at a Certified Collection Center. Choose one of the links below for a list of 100 Certified Collection Centers,

If the oil is contaminated, it can be disposed of at a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. Click here to link to the Riverside County Regional Hazardous Waste Collection Program.

Bilge Pad Disposal

Bilge pads are designed to soak up any oil in the bilge of the vessel, while leaving the water behind. This prevents oily water from entering Riverside County’s lakes.

Bilge pad collection containers at Lake Perris, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake are designed to provide boaters with a convenient depository for used bilge pads. Free bilge pads will be available at each of these lakes or they can be provided to boaters through our Used Oil hotline at 800-350-4OIL. The Riverside County Lake Guide is an electronic map that provides information on clean boating, as well as a map of the bilge pad collection container locations. To get a hard copy call 800-350-4OIL.

Boater Kits

Additionally, WRCOG provides educational outreach and promotional items to all three lakes, as well as Diamond Valley Lake. These promotional items include a boater kit that contains a bucket, a bilge pad, a neck tote and first aid kit, a funnel, and several pieces of literature on clean boating.

To receive a free boater kit call us at 800-350-4OIL or request a kit online (Limit 1 kit per vessel)
