About the Partnership

The Western Riverside Energy Leader Partnership (WRELP) is an alliance between the Western Riverside Council of Governments and Southern California Edison to bring energy savings to Western Riverside County through innovative public education and energy efficiency projects.  The Partnership seeks to reduce energy usage in the region by approximately 4.9 million kilowatt-hours by 2012.

This unique Partnership brings SCE and local governments together to make Western Riverside County a leader in energy efficiency. With efforts to “go green,” find savings in ever-tightening government budgets, and plan for new state greenhouse gas emissions regulations, identifying opportunities to increase energy efficiency is at the forefront of municipal and community planning efforts.  WRELP is helping Western Riverside County capitalize on opportunities that will bring measurable energy savings and reduced utility bills through the following program initiatives:

  • Leveraging local government resources and work with local communities to maximize program reach.
  • Achieving short-and long-term energy savings and demand reduction for local government participants and the communities they serve while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Providing energy information to communities and providing training and education for local government facility managers, energy managers, and planners to help identify and implement energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Developing energy action plans that share goals and specific actions to ensure that adequate, reliable, and reasonably-priced electrical power and natural gas supplies are achieved and provided through policies, strategies, and actions that are cost-effective and environmentally sound for the subregion’s consumers and taxpayers.
  • Implementing energy efficiency projects.
